August 2006

It is a gorgeous day today and as the day has progressed it has gotten warmer and warmer. I went into town and had breakfast with Jean B. We enjoyed a Marden’s run and then went to the market. After dropping her off I visited with Jean and her munchkin, Maeryn. She (Jean) is enjoying babysitting so far. Her dog is a mother hen, alerting her to the baby’s every nuance!

Tried to reach Jo today. She called last night from the hospital emergency room, stomach pain…turns out to be diverticulistus. She’s supposed to stay home and rest.

I just finished a new dress from a pattern I’d ordered. I think when I make it again I will make medium rather than large. Although I have sewed dresses before, this one came with just general instruction, so it was a challenge. However I don’t feel as intimidated as I have in the past.   I attempted to add some details to give it a more finished look. It was good practice and has given me some ideas for the future.

It’s raining this morning.

Paul got up very early to get off to school. He managed to get it done and got off without a hitch. Bravo.

I’m just puttering, you know, dishes, wash, bed making , general picking up. I really enjoy the work of home keeping.

We took a ride to Whiting to track down a couple that had bought the cub tractor from us last year.  They are blueberry growers and had berries for sale. We bought 40 pounds to put in the freezer. The price was right and we like doing business with people we know.  We went on to the Bluebird Ranch for lunch…yummy.  It was fun to get away for the day.

The field is engulfed in fog. The temps are in the high 30s. The ‘Amity” stove is running. Sunday morning in Talmadge.

Another chilly morning. I left about 8:30 AM to meet Jean B for breakfast. Had a nice “girls” morning/ Marden’s/ Yard sales/Walmart and then lunch by the water.  The foolish gulls kept begging for crumbs.  One even got on the hood of my car and when we drove away it took its time getting off. That was funny. Marden’s had some stuff for $2.88 and I got a 2 piece light blue linen dress set, a corderoy jumper and a nice gray knit skirt, all for under ten dollars! The yard sales yielded a couple of tops and a sweater. Walmart gave me leggings to go under my skirts and jumper, also on sale. Came home feeling like the bargain diva! God is so good.

40 degrees this morning…burr.   Paul has gotten the Vigilant from Amity’s house and is installing it here. That should make it toasty!  Today I worked on a 6 gored skirt for Amity made to her exact measurements. It was fun to work on, it fit her well and she liked it.     I would like to make on in wool or wool blends now that we have the measurements right.

Hung out here/ cooking/cleaning /sewing for the day, hoping that my energy would return to normal…or is this the “new” normal. Haha!

This morning is cool, more like October than August. We are working on our morning routine so when Paul starts school next week we’ll have it down. Up just after six. Coffee, blueberry oatmeal, juice, and meds. Sitting down together! So some conversation, too.

I am entering a new season in my life. I want to embrace it with all its ups and downs. After all , life is the journey and all we have is today.
