January 2007

Although the temps said 12 degrees, I think it is not working. It is bitter outside and cold in the studio. I wanted to find some fabric for aprons and was sorely tempted to head to Marden’s but the voice in my head kept saying…shop at home first, shop at home first. So I did and found some lovely fabrics(before my hands froze). Now to get cutting and sewing.

Today I found a recipe for ham and broccoli casserole… a scalloped potato type meal. It was easy and delicious. I am chomping at the bit with the ideas swirling in my head for things to try to create in the sewing room. I am thinking I should call my projects “Just Passing the Winter”projects as this time of the year is a great time to be making things!

Staying inside on a bitter cold day gives me the chance to try new things in my sewing room. As you can see I’m having fun. This bag has a small button in the front to close it. It also has a small outside pocket.

Sooo…I was cruising the net and saw this cute handbag. Thought I’d make it this morning. It’s so cute!

This is the third apron I’ve made using the same pattern.  This one is lined.

Somehow I have messed up my ‘flicka to blog’ connection so for now pictures will wait. I finished a second apron of the same design, it does not tie but crosses over in the back and is loose fitting but great coverage. This one will be my bread apron as I tend to cover myself with flour and the like when making bread.  Now I am getting requests from the gallery for their very own apron. They will be made this week! Today through Wednesday are techniquely work days off so I have time for play in the sewing room.

I had the chance to spend some time with my special friend. We had a good visit, lunch out, shopping, gabbing, laughing…what are friends for. I stopped beating up on myself, trying to make something without a pattern and bought one today. Tonight I finished a nice apron with less stress because I didn’t have to think the whole thing up. Lfe lesson…you don’t have to do it all. Its all right to get help.

Supper tonight was yummy. Twice baked potatoes, pork and beans, fresh apples and good company.

The two times I went out I needed to bundle up and cover my face so It wouldn’t freeze. The wind chill off the field is brutal. The rubbish barrels blew into the road three times. The wonderful neighbors put them in by the garage door twice and the third time the garbage truck stopped and put them in.  I didn’t want to venture out so I was very thankful.

I have been working on an apron pattern today.  The first one was a flop but the second one is better.  I will work on another one tonight with the tweaking it needs.
