April 2007

Here is my sunshine grandson picking up rocks at my favorite beach.  He’s a keeper!

And 106 miles later I am home! I have a lot of things I want to do here at home so I am glad to be finished. My car worked again today as a truck caused me to veer into the ditch on a mudcovered road. He slowed to help me but the 4 wheel drive Jeep”baby” came out of the ditch, no problem!

I’m tired this afternoon so an hours rest is in order. And then…we’ll see.

Mary Elizabeth is the sixth doll and last doll in the first set. I am very pleased with her. She has long black hair made from roving wool. She has a small heart neck lace and buttons on her nubuck leather shoes.

The dollmaker challenge me to cut the first 2 yards of tea dyed cloth and make those first six dolls. She said I would learn a lot. Boy was she right. Now to begin the next set.

Oh, I hope this is a restful day. My body is telling me to slow down a bit. Every part that can move is screaming at me me! My brain however seems to be in control and the creative juices are tumbling out like toddlers rolling down a hill. My neighbor finished the first bench.  he is so talented. He is going away for a couple of weeks but when he returns we’ll get together and tweek it a bit and talk business. Today I have a customer coming about nine to talk about a purse she wants.  No wonder my mind is so busy.

Home keeping needs to be done today. Ironing, menu for the week, etc as the new month starts on Tuesday. I have to get a bit of organization to my week so I don’t lose track.  Robin’s small notebook idea has bee a saving grace for me. Thanks Robin!

Tomorrow my DD is going help me get my dolls onto the Esty site. I am also posting some handbags and other handmade items there.

Its raining but mild and DH is here all day. I love the days we can spend together. Just having him in the house is comforting. He does all those little things I forget or overlook and is a quiet presence. It will be a good day.

I had a very busy day yesterday that included a quick trip to Canada. At the greenhouse I purchased a bench just the right size for my doll and left it with Harold to replicate. He is very talented with wood and lives just next-door. I also went to the sheep farm for some more wool “hair”. She was excited about what I was doing and promised to save me some wool curls from the cleaning process.

I needed to return a pattern to the doll maker so that’s where I went last. I was able to get some feed back on the dolls I have made so far and feel really good about the process. She was very complimentary and helpful. Of course, I came home and got right to work on the next doll.

On another note, my started seedlings are taking off. I have green growing things all over the house! I had to buy some bamboo stakes for my morning glories on the kitchen window sill so they wouldn’t wind around each other. I was surprised at how quickly they grew.

Chilly 26 degrees when we got up this morning.  But…the sun is out and it will warm up. I went to Machais yesterday for jury selection and was there all day. Tired  today from all that waiting around and sitting.  I did get chosen again and have to report om May 7th. They will have yet another selection for my group the following week and then I hope it is done! The whopping $10 a day and 15cents a mile hardly covers getting there!

I have a slew of things to do today and need to getting listing so they don’t escape my mind. DH is on the lookout for job opportunities as the school may be swept into consolidation and close. We are trying to sell the house so it needs cleaning and primping.  Winter clothes need sorting, tossing and putting away.  Some Etsy items need photographing. Guess I’d better get myself moving today!
