ducklings

Early morning slug fest., originally uploaded by mabeane6.

This is about 4:45AM when I got up to use the bathroom. These guys were busily feasting on the dew laden grass hidden slugs. What a sight!

The sun rose very early this morning and the morning light drew me from my bed. My duck “kids” were waddling around the dew dampened back yard looking for grubs and worms. What characters they are. When one finds something the other five chase him around to try and grab it away. They seem to move in unison everywhere they go. They alternate between the big pond and the small pond. Mama duck and babies enjoy having them around.

DH took grain to the hen house and discovered that the first duckling had hatched. He quickly moved the kennel into the greenhouse and when I went down a bit later I discovered that four had hatched so far. There are three eggs still in tack but only one looks like a duck egg. we’ll see what happens.

Mama came out of the truck cap and took her babies swimming. They stuck very close to her.

The duck “kids” squeezed through the smallest fence opening and just the hens acting like they were just one of the hens!

On this very wet and rainy day Henny Penny brought her brood out and let them play in the water that flows down the ditch when it rains. Although she was soaked they were all happily playing. What a good mom she has been!
