You never know when you are looking for something else what the freezer will bring forth. I thought we had eaten all the “Shanna brownies”. I had squirreled away in the freezer but no… Hidden in the back was one last package of yummy goodness to be consumed today.

Apple streudel, originally uploaded by mabeane6.
Shanna made a wonderful tasty streudel this morning . She used up the apples that were on the counter and the smell preceded the eating creating rumblings in the taste buds. The actual eating was outstanding. Go Shanna!

We ran out of bread last night so this morning I started the next batch. Over the years DH has supplied me with necessary machines to make bread making easier as I get older. This wonderful mixer does a grand job of kneading the dough for me.

Here is the crock pot pea soup recipe for all those who requested it.
2 C (16 oz) dried green peas, rinsed
2 C diced ham (I used what I had, didn’t measure)
3 carrots peeled and sliced
1/2 C chopped onions
2 ribs of celery chopped, leaves included
1 or 2 cloves of garlic,minced
1 bay leaf
2 teaspoons of parley flakes
salt to taste
1/2 t pepper
1 and 1/2 quarts of water
Layer in the crockpot in the order given. Do not stir.
Pour the hot water over and cover.
Cook for 4 to 5 hours on high or 8 to 10 on low.
Mash peas to thicken more if desired.
note: My daughter recommended adding diced potatoes but the suggestion came too late. I’ll try that next time)
The result was delicious and took very little time or work to have a yummy supper ready when I needed it.

I found an easy crockpot recipe for pea soup.
It’s all my sister’s fault. She served homemade pea soup for lunch yesterday and was it good. It reminded me I had some leftover Easter ham that needed to be used up and so I went to the computer. I was pleased to find a recipe that used the ingredients I had on hand.
I’ll let you know how it tastes!

DH says these are “world class”. I think they are better than the first batch I cooked last week. I saved the extra dough and froze it and then last night took it out and put it in the refrigerator. This morning I took it out when I got up and let it warm a bit before rolling out and cutting. It was left to rise about 45 minutes and then I cooked it in lard. Last time I used cooking oil. The flavor was terrific.
