This skittish bird has gotten braver and braver as the cold winter hangs on. He was just outside the kitchen window on the feeder. Usually we only see them on the ground and in quick flight.

An overnight ice storm and icing this morning brought a twohour school delay.  The temps are hovering at the freezing point making travel dangerous.  Thankfully although our net connection was down last night this morning it is up again.  All this weather affects the tower that sends the signal our way.

It’s an uncertain type of day. The water on the ice makes footing uncertain and it is icing from the sky again. Not hail, not snow but tiny pellets of ice. Everywhere is being covered with ball bearing type ice making it very slick.

I am in the middle of making donuts. My new deep cast iron skillet should make the process very doable. I haven’t made donuts since my children were little kids. I hope this works as my mouth is already watering!

I am slowed down a bit since I went to Mardens on Friday. They had a huge new shipment of towels in and they were scattered about the fabric department waiting to be put on the shelves. I started sneezing and could not stop. I think there was some type of sizing in the towels. That night I felt like I was drowning and had difficulty breathing. Consequently yesterday I hardly functioned. I’m doing better today but still have tightness in my chest. And yes, to all who want to know, I am taking medication for it!

At the last minute this morning school was canceled, again. This time there is a dangerous ice problem. Fine particles of ice were falling, glazing every surface. When I went out to tend the hens, I wore my ice cleats that another DD provided me with last week. It was a good thing, since the walking was treacherous and the stairs had ice on them already. It felt very cold, with a brisk wind hitting my face. The hens rushed out the door and quickly went back in when I arrived. They know to stay inside when the weather is so bad.

I will enjoy having my sweetheart home again today. I love his presence here in the house. It makes me feel cared for and loved.
