It’s November in Maine.
For many it is a time to put on the bright orange coat and carry a gun. It is a time for long walks through the woods in search of…. Or perhaps a long “sit down” in a tree stand watching, listening, waiting. We live in the other Maine where hunting is a way of life. Venison is eaten through the year if the deer was big enough or at least enjoyed through the winter months. Owning a gun is not a strange idea for us or our neighbors. Using it to provide food for the family is also not a strange concept.
My husband was up early this morning to get in a little hunting before he headed out to work. That’s what he likes to do in November. Although his ultimate goal is to bag a deer he also enjoys being in the woods, seeing nature up close and getting some exercise while he’s at it.
